Incorporated in 1957 in Chicago, Il , Crown Gym Mats, Inc. has played a key role in the design, development and manufacturing of athletic mats, structural padding, medical mats, industrial use mats and many other areas needing mats, padding or training aids.In the early 1950’s founders, husband and wife team Oliver and Ethel Bramble purchased a canvas cleaning company. In that time period the Brambles saw a need for cleaning, repairing and manufacturing athletic mats. They researched suppliers and locations and decided to invest in their idea. A few years later as the need for thicker mats, created by athletes falling from greater heights, Mr. Bramble patented the invention of air release in mats which became an industry standard. In 1987 Mr. Bramble retired and sold the business to his youngest daughter and husband Judy and Jonathan Eckert.
